10 comments/tips you must consider before sending your press release
- Write your release from the perspective of a reporter. How does the information within your press release benefit their readers or match their interests?
- Your headline is probably the most important aspect of your press release. What is the benefit of reading any further?
- Provide information that establishes you as an expert on what you write about. Why should the reporter believe what you say?
- The most important information within your release should be written within the first 2 paragraphs.
- Look at how the reporter writes. Review their publication to get a general idea of the overall writing style of the publication. What style does s/he use?
- Be confident in knowing you've done all you can do. Do you know the topic of your release in detail and researched your target audience and appropriate publications?
- You have many choices for delivery of your press release and each method will affect how successful you are - email, postal service, fax etc. Do you know how the reporter you ar contacting likes to receive press releases?
- Add your release to your website for those reporters who surf the net for new, timely and innovative stories.
- Make sure you target the proper publications for your press release. Send it only to the reporter who covers the topics sought after by your target audience.
